Welcome bonus and value over time
| Over time | Bilt Blue | Chase Freedom Unlimited® |
|---|---|---|
| Welcome bonus | $100 in Bilt Cash on account opening | $200 cash bonus |
| To earn it | No minimum spend | $500 in 3 months |
| Est. first-year value* | $510 | $690 |
| Est. ongoing value / yr* | $410 | $490 |
The Chase Freedom Unlimited® wins on both fronts: it comes out ahead in year one on the welcome offer and stays ahead every year after. Short term or long, it is the stronger pick on the numbers.
*First-year value counts the welcome bonus, estimated rewards, and annual credits, minus the annual fee; ongoing value is a typical year after. Every point at a flat 1 cent.
Perks, credits, and redemptions
| Perks | Bilt Blue | Chase Freedom Unlimited® |
|---|---|---|
| Lounge access | None | None |
| Annual credits | ~$100/yr (1 credits) | None |
| Points & redemptions | Transferable to airline & hotel partners | Transferable (paired with a premium card) |
On perks and redemptions, the Bilt Blue carries the heavier credit stack (about $100 a year). Weigh those against the fee, since credits and lounge access only count if you will actually use them.
Transfer partners and point value
The Bilt Blue earns Bilt Rewards, which transfers to Alaska / Atmos, Air Canada, World of Hyatt, American Airlines, and Turkish. The Chase Freedom Unlimited® earns Chase Ultimate Rewards, reaching World of Hyatt, United, Air Canada, Southwest, and British Airways Avios. Most transfers are 1:1 on both, so the partners themselves, not the ratios, are what separate them.
The standout difference is the crown-jewel partner: for the Bilt Blue it is Alaska and Hyatt, a rare pairing that covers both a top airline and a top hotel program; for the Chase Freedom Unlimited® it is World of Hyatt at 1:1, widely considered the single best hotel transfer in points. Pick the program whose best partners match the trips you would actually book.
Both are free and both earn transferable-capable points, but the Bilt Blue exists to reward one thing no other card does, housing, while the Freedom Unlimited is a broad everyday earner.
The Bilt Blue lets you earn points on rent or mortgage with no fee, which is genuinely unique, but it earns only 1x on most other spending. The Freedom Unlimited earns 1.5x everywhere and 3x on dining. They’re complements: Bilt for the rent, Freedom for the rest.

Where each one wins
| Category | Winner | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Rent & mortgage | Bilt Blue | The only one that rewards housing. |
| Everyday earning | Freedom Unlimited | 1.5x and 3x dining vs the Blue’s 1x. |
| Transfers | Both | Bilt transfers on its own; Freedom needs a Sapphire. |
| Annual fee | Tie | Both $0. |
| Best role | Together | Bilt for rent, Freedom for everything else. |
The verdict
If you pay rent or a mortgage, the Bilt Blue is worth holding for that alone, it’s the free way to earn transferable points on a four- or five-figure annual bill no other card rewards, and its points can go straight to airlines. For a renter, that’s found money every month.
But as an everyday earner, the Freedom Unlimited is clearly stronger, its 1.5x floor and 3x dining beat the Bilt Blue’s 1x on all your non-housing spend, and it plugs into Chase’s excellent transfer partners. The smart move for a renter is both: put rent on the Bilt Blue to earn on housing, and everything else on the Freedom Unlimited for 1.5x and 3x dining. If you don’t pay rent, the Freedom Unlimited alone is the better card.
