Perks, credits, and redemptions
| Perks | Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive | Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® |
|---|---|---|
| Lounge access | Yes — Admirals Club | None |
| Annual credits | None | None |
| Points & redemptions | Locked to a single program | Locked to a single program |
On perks and redemptions, only the Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive gets you into airport lounges. Weigh those against the fee, since credits and lounge access only count if you will actually use them.
Transfer partners and point value
Neither card earns transferable points, so redemptions are cash-back or fixed portal value on both, roughly a cent per point. There is no airline or hotel transfer angle to separate them.
Both earn American miles, but the Executive is a premium lounge card and the Platinum an affordable everyday AA card, so it depends on how much you fly American.
The Executive’s Admirals Club membership can justify much of its $595 if you’d otherwise pay for lounge access. The Platinum’s free checked bag can cover its $99 on a single round trip. Premium lounges vs cheap airline perks.

The verdict
If you fly American often and value lounges, the Executive can pay for itself on the Admirals Club membership alone.
If you fly American occasionally, the Platinum is far more sensible, the free checked bag covers the fee on one trip and you skip paying for lounges you won’t use. Same airline, opposite intensities: heavy AA flyers lean Executive, everyone else leans Platinum.
