How Bilt Cash and the Point Boost Work
It’s called Bilt Cash, and paired with the Point Accelerator it’s the mechanic that turns the Bilt Palladium from a 2x card into something closer to a flat 3x on everyday spend. It takes a little managing, but once you see how the pieces fit together it’s one of the cleverer earning setups out there. Here is exactly how it works and how to run it.
What Bilt Cash actually is
Bilt Cash is a cash-like currency that is separate from Bilt Points. You earn it a few ways: an annual $200 Bilt Cash credit on the Palladium, a chunk from the welcome offer, and, if you choose the Bilt Cash earning mode instead of points, up to 4% back as Bilt Cash on non-housing spend. The important thing is that it is not the same as points, you cannot transfer it to airlines or hotels, so it behaves more like statement-credit money. Its single highest-value job is funding boosts, which is where the real leverage lives.
The Point Accelerator, step by step
To turn a boost on, you redeem $200 of Bilt Cash. That activates a Point Accelerator that adds one extra point per dollar on everyday spend, so the Palladium’s 2x becomes 3x. The boost runs until you have spent $5,000 or the calendar year ends, whichever comes first, and it caps at 5,000 bonus points. You can do this up to five times a year, which covers $25,000 of spend at the boosted 3x rate.
| Activation cost | Redeem $200 of Bilt Cash |
| What it does | Adds +1 point per dollar on everyday spend (2x → 3x on the Palladium) |
| Coverage per boost | $5,000 of spend, or year-end, whichever comes first |
| Cap per boost | 5,000 bonus points |
| Boosts per year | Up to 5 (so 3x on up to $25,000 of everyday spend) |
Why it nets an effective ~3.3x
Here is the honest math. Each $200 Bilt Cash boost buys you 5,000 extra points on $5,000 of spend, a full extra point per dollar on top of the base 2x. Where the widely cited 3.3x comes from is that much of the Bilt Cash you spend on boosts is generated by your housing payment, a bill no other card rewards at all. So the boosts are partly paid for by rent you were handing over anyway, and your everyday spend effectively earns around 3x once you account for it. Be clear-eyed about it, though: it is not a literal 3.33x stamped on every purchase, it is an effective rate in a realistic renter’s scenario, and it is capped at $25,000 of boosted spend a year.
The catch, and who should bother
This rewards active management. You have to remember to redeem Bilt Cash and reactivate the boost five separate times a year, unused Bilt Cash only rolls over up to a cap, and boosts expire at year-end whether you have used them or not. If you will not babysit it, you are leaving the best part of the card on the table, and a simpler flat-rate card may quietly beat it. But if you pay rent or a mortgage and you will run the boosts, it is one of the strongest everyday setups going.
