Crypto.com Midnight Blue Review
Overview
The Crypto.com Midnight Blue is the free entry tier of the Crypto.com Visa Signature Credit Card. It earns 1.5% back in crypto with no annual fee, no subscription, and no CRO to lock up, which makes it the only Crypto.com tier a normal person can get without paying in.
It is a reasonable way to earn a little crypto on spending, but 1.5% trails a plain 2% cash-back card, and the rewards come in a volatile token instead of dollars.
Think twice if: you want the most value per dollar or stable rewards, because a free 2% cash-back card out-earns it and pays in dollars.
Our 2.5 out of 5 rating
Each score weighs the rewards rate, value after the annual fee, welcome offer, points flexibility, and perks, with every point valued at a flat 1 cent. This is our editorial assessment to help you compare cards, not a guarantee of approval or of the value you will get.
Rewards: how it earns
You earn a flat 1.5% back in crypto on everything, paid in CRO by default (or Bitcoin, if you switch, though the Bitcoin option is capped at $250 of purchases a month). The rate is modest and the reward is a volatile token, so the real value depends on where crypto prices go.
| Category | Rate | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Dining and restaurants | 1.5x | Base rate |
| Groceries | 1.5x | Base rate |
| Gas | 1.5x | Base rate |
| Travel | 1.5x | Base rate |
| Streaming | 1.5x | Base rate |
| Everything else | 1.5x | Everything else |
The fine print on rates: Rewards are paid in crypto (CRO by default, or Bitcoin), so their value fluctuates. Issued by Comenity Capital Bank on the Visa network; not available to New York residents.
Every point and mile above is valued at a flat 1 cent, the same honest standard we use for every card. Run your own spending through the calculator to see what this card would actually return for you.
Pros and cons
- No annual fee, no subscription, no CRO lock-up
- Earns crypto on every purchase
- The only Crypto.com tier you can get without paying in
- 1.5% trails a free 2% cash-back card
- Rewards are a volatile token, not dollars
- Not available to New York residents
The welcome bonus
There is no meaningful welcome bonus, so the appeal is purely the ongoing 1.5% in crypto.
Is the annual fee worth it?
There is no annual fee, no subscription, and no CRO lock-up at this tier, which is exactly why it is the sensible Crypto.com tier to actually hold. You pay nothing to earn crypto, and if you want a higher rate you would have to step up to a paid or stake-gated tier.
Benefits and protections
Beyond the rewards, the perks and protections worth knowing about include:
- The entry Level Up tier: free to hold, with no subscription or CRO lock-up required
- Rewards are paid in CRO by default, or you can switch to Bitcoin (the Bitcoin option is capped at $250 in purchases per month)
- Higher Crypto.com tiers earn 3.5% to 6%, but each requires a paid subscription or locking up CRO for 12 months
- Rewards are paid in cryptocurrency, so their dollar value moves with the market
- No foreign transaction fees
Statement credits
This card does not come with recurring statement credits. Its value is in the rewards rate and welcome offer.
Who should get it, and who should skip it
If you are mildly crypto-curious and want to accumulate a little CRO or Bitcoin painlessly, the free Midnight Blue tier does that with no cost and no commitment.
If your goal is maximum return, a free 2% cash-back card beats it outright and pays in dollars you can actually count on. Treat this as a novelty crypto earner, not a primary card.
