Our review
The legacy Capital One Savor was a genuinely great card in its day: 4% on dining and entertainment, 3% on groceries, for a $95 fee, back when 4% on dining was rare. It is closed to new applicants now, so this is a review for people who still hold the older version.
If you have it, that 4% on dining and entertainment is still strong, but you have to weigh it against the fact that the no-fee Savor now earns 3% on those categories for free.
Think twice if: your dining and entertainment spending is modest, since the free Savor's 3% may serve you just as well without the fee.
Our 7.1 out of 10 rating
Each score weighs the rewards rate, value after the annual fee, welcome offer, points flexibility, and perks, with every point valued at a flat 1 cent. This is our editorial assessment to help you compare cards, not a guarantee of approval or of the value you will get.

Rewards: how it earns
You earn 4% on dining and entertainment, 3% on groceries, and 1% on everything else. The 4% on dining and entertainment is the draw, that extra point over the no-fee Savor can add up if you spend a lot there. As Capital One rewards, they can pair to miles with a Venture card, which adds flexibility.
| Category | Rate | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Dining and restaurants | 4x | Bonus category |
| Streaming | 4x | Bonus category |
| Entertainment | 4x | Bonus category |
| Groceries | 3x | Bonus category |
| Gas | 1x | Base rate |
| Travel | 1x | Base rate |
| Everything else | 1x | Everything else |
The fine print on rates: The discontinued $95 annual-fee Savor. Grandfathered holders keep 4% on dining and entertainment, versus 3% on the current no-fee Savor.
Every point and mile above is valued at a flat 1 cent, the same honest standard we use for every card. Run your own spending through the calculator to see what this card would actually return for you.
Best ways to earn & redeem
Put your dining, streaming, and entertainment spending on this card to earn at its highest rates, and let a different card handle the categories it does not bonus. Its dining rate is among the stronger ones you will find in that category.
When you cash in, pool the rewards into the issuer transferable points when you also hold an eligible card, then move them to travel partners. We value every point at a flat 1 cent, so treat any transfer upside as a bonus rather than the baseline — see what your points are really worth.
Pros and cons
- 4% on dining and entertainment, ahead of the free Savor
- 3% on groceries
- Rewards can pair to miles with a Venture card
- Closed to new applicants
- $95 fee only worth it for heavy dining and entertainment spenders
- The free Savor covers the same categories at 3%
The welcome bonus
This card is no longer open to new applicants, so there is no welcome offer to earn. The value below applies to existing cardholders.
Is it worth the annual fee?
The $95 fee is the question for existing holders. If you spend enough on dining and entertainment that the extra 1% over the free Savor beats $95, keep it. If not, downgrade to the no-fee Savor and pocket the fee, you will still get 3% on those categories.
First-year value vs ongoing value
| Welcome bonus | Not available (no longer open to new applicants) |
| To earn it | No minimum spend |
| Est. first-year value* | $425 |
| Est. ongoing value / yr* | $425 |
There is no lump-sum welcome bonus, so first-year and ongoing value are about the same, roughly $425 a year on typical spending after the fee. What you see is what you get from day one.
*First-year value counts the welcome bonus, estimated rewards, and annual credits, minus the annual fee; ongoing value is a typical year after. Every point at a flat 1 cent, on average spending.
Benefits and protections
Beyond the rewards, the perks and protections worth knowing about include:
- $95 annual fee
- Rewards pool with Capital One miles cards for airline and hotel transfers
Statement credits
This card does not come with recurring statement credits. Its value is in the rewards rate and welcome offer.
Ecosystem and transfer partners
The Capital One Savor (Legacy $95) earns Miles, one of the more valuable currencies in rewards because of where the points can go. On its own it earns flexible points, but paired with a premium Capital One card you can pool them together and unlock 1 to 1 transfers to 7 airline and hotel partners: Air Canada Aeroplan, Turkish Miles & Smiles, Avianca LifeMiles, Air France/KLM Flying Blue, Singapore Airlines, British Airways, and Wyndham Rewards. As an earner, its job is to rack up points cheaply that you move to a hub card before transferring. The sweet spots are usually premium-cabin flights and high-end hotel nights, where a single point can be worth well more than the 1 cent we value it at here.

If you are a legacy Savor holder who eats out and goes out a lot, the 4% on dining and entertainment can still justify the fee, run the math against your spending.
If your spending does not clear that bar, product-change to the no-fee Savor and keep 3% on the same categories for free. There is no reason to pay $95 unless the extra point genuinely earns it back.
