On perks and redemptions, only the United℠ Explorer gets you into airport lounges; the Atmos Rewards Ascent carries the heavier credit stack (about $99 a year). Weigh those against the fee, since credits and lounge access only count if you will actually use them.
Transfer partners and point value

The verdict
If you fly Alaska, the Ascent is the better card, the Companion Fare can cover its $95 fee on a single trip, and the 2x everyday categories are a nice bonus. There’s little reason to hold a United card if Alaska is your airline.
If you fly United, the Explorer is the match, free checked bags alone can outweigh the $150 fee for a couple that travels, and the United Club passes, priority boarding, and Global Entry credit round it out. This isn’t really Alaska-vs-United on the cards, it’s on the airlines: fly the one whose card you’re considering, and the card follows.
