| Over time | Citi Double Cash® | Costco Anywhere Visa® |
|---|---|---|
| Welcome bonus | $200 cash back | None |
| To earn it | $1,500 in 6 months | No minimum spend |
| Est. first-year value* | $783 | $387 |
| Est. ongoing value / yr* | $583 | $387 |
The Citi Double Cash® wins on both fronts: it comes out ahead in year one on the welcome offer and stays ahead every year after. Short term or long, it is the stronger pick on the numbers.
*First-year value counts the welcome bonus, estimated rewards, and annual credits, minus the annual fee; ongoing value is a typical year after. Every point at a flat 1 cent.
Perks, credits, and redemptions
| Perks | Citi Double Cash® | Costco Anywhere Visa® |
|---|---|---|
| Lounge access | None | None |
| Annual credits | None | None |
| Points & redemptions | Transferable (paired with a premium card) | Cash back only |
On perks and redemptions, the Citi Double Cash® earns transferable points with a higher redemption ceiling, while the other is capped nearer a flat cent. Weigh those against the fee, since credits and lounge access only count if you will actually use them.
Transfer partners and point value
Only the Citi Double Cash® earns transferable points. Its Citi ThankYou move to American Airlines, Turkish, Avianca, and Air France-KLM, where a point can be worth several cents on a premium-cabin redemption, far above its cash value. The Costco Anywhere Visa® pays flat cash back, worth about a cent, so its ceiling is nearer a penny per point no matter how you redeem.
Both are cash-back cards, but the Double Cash pays a flat 2% everywhere for free, while the Costco card pays more in specific categories, if you’re a member.
The Double Cash’s 2% is the simplest strong rate, no categories, no membership, no fee. The Costco card beats it on gas (4%), dining, and travel (3%), but rewards come annually and require a Costco membership. Flat-everywhere vs category-heavy-for-members.

The verdict
If you want simple, flexible cash with no strings, the Double Cash is the better default, a flat 2% everywhere with no membership or fee beats the Costco card everywhere except its bonus categories, and you can redeem anytime. For a one-card cash setup, it’s cleaner.
If you’re a Costco member with meaningful gas and dining spend, the Costco card earns more where it counts, 4% gas and 3% dining outrun 2%, and it doubles as your membership card. The honest answer for many is both: the Costco card for gas and warehouse trips, the Double Cash as the flat-2% catch-all for everything else.
