Are Car-Brand Credit Cards Worth It? The Most Restrictive Lock

The short answer: Automaker credit cards from GM, BMW, and others let you earn rewards redeemable only toward purchasing or leasing a vehicle from that specific brand, often with annual caps and expiration. Because a car is a rare purchase and you are betting on one brand years in advance, this is the most restrictive lock in rewards, and a flexible cash card almost always serves you better.
Rewards you can barely use
Car-brand cards earn points or earnings that apply only to a new or leased vehicle from that one manufacturer. The purchase is infrequent, often years apart, and you are committing your everyday rewards to a single brand you may not even buy next time. Why the lock is so severe
Compare it to other co-brand cards: a hotel card at least books frequent stays, and an airline card books regular flights, but a car-brand card pays off only when you buy that exact brand of car, which most people do rarely if ever.
