Overview
The United Gateway is the no-fee United card, and it runs into the usual free-airline-card trap: without a fee, there is no free checked bag, which is the perk that makes an airline card worth carrying. It earns some United miles and offers a modest welcome bonus, but the benefits are thin.
For an occasional United flyer who wants a free way to earn a few miles, it is fine, but most United flyers will get much more from the Explorer.
