The verdict
If you fly Alaska frequently, the Summit earns its keep, the Global Companion Award and premium perks reward a loyal Alaska traveler, but only with real flight volume behind them. Occasional Alaska flyers should look at the cheaper Ascent instead.
If you stay at Hilton, the Surpass is the easier win, its annual free night alone can beat the $150 fee, Gold status adds free breakfast and upgrades, and the 6x everyday categories are strong. These are not substitutes: one is an Alaska airline card, the other a Hilton hotel card. Pick by which brand your travel actually revolves around.
