Our review
The GM Business Mastercard is a fleet card in disguise. It earns 7x points on eligible GM purchases and 3x on everything else, with no annual fee, and right now it opens with 100,000 bonus points. That 3x on all spending looks generous, but the points only redeem in-dealer toward GM vehicles, service, and parts.
For a business that buys or leases Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, or Cadillac vehicles, that is fine, because the points work like a 3% discount on the next truck. For anyone else, the points have nowhere to go.
Think twice if: you are not planning a GM purchase, because the points cannot be cashed out or used anywhere else.
Our 4.6 out of 10 rating
Each score weighs the rewards rate, value after the annual fee, welcome offer, points flexibility, and perks, with every point valued at a flat 1 cent. This is our editorial assessment to help you compare cards, not a guarantee of approval or of the value you will get.

Rewards: how it earns
You earn 7x points on eligible GM purchases and 3x on everything else, with no cap. Points are worth about a penny each, but only in-dealer toward eligible new or Certified Pre-Owned GM vehicles, GM Certified Service, and GM Genuine Parts. If your business replaces vehicles on a regular cycle, 3% back toward the next one adds up quickly.
| Category | Rate | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Everything else | 3% back | Everything else |
The fine print on rates: GM Business Card Points are worth about 1 cent each but redeem only in-dealer toward eligible new or Certified Pre-Owned GM vehicles, GM Certified Service, and GM Genuine Parts. They are not cash back and do not transfer out, so their value depends on buying and servicing GM vehicles.
Every point and mile above is valued at a flat 1 cent, the same honest standard we use for every card. Run your own spending through the calculator to see what this card would actually return for you.
Best ways to earn & redeem
Use it as a flat-rate everyday card, since it earns the same on every purchase, and pair it with bonus-category cards for groceries, dining, and travel.
When you cash in, redeem the miles or points inside the single loyalty program this card is tied to. We value every point at a flat 1 cent, so treat any transfer upside as a bonus rather than the baseline — see what your points are really worth.
Pros and cons
- 7x points on eligible GM purchases
- 3x points on everything else
- 100,000-point welcome bonus
- No annual fee
- Points only redeem toward GM vehicles, service, and parts
- No cash back option
- Little value if you are not buying a GM vehicle
The welcome bonus
New cardholders earn 100,000 bonus points after spending $5,000 in the first 5 months. Applied to a new GM vehicle, that is about $1,000 off, which is generous for a no-fee card.
First-year value vs ongoing value
| Welcome bonus | 100,000 points ($1,000) |
| To earn it | $5,000 in the first 5 months |
| Est. first-year value* | $2,350 |
| Est. ongoing value / yr* | $1,350 |
The welcome bonus makes year one the high point: roughly $2,350 in value once you count the bonus, this card’s rewards, and its credits, minus the no fee. After that, the honest figure is about $1,350 a year, so judge whether it earns its keep on the ongoing number, not the first-year headline.
*First-year value counts the welcome bonus, estimated rewards, and annual credits, minus the annual fee; ongoing value is a typical year after. Every point at a flat 1 cent, on average spending.
Benefits and protections
Beyond the rewards, the perks and protections worth knowing about include:
- 100,000 bonus points after $5,000 in purchases in the first 5 months
Statement credits
This card does not come with recurring statement credits. Its value is in the rewards rate and welcome offer.
Who should get it, and who should skip it
Get the GM Business Mastercard if your business runs GM vehicles and will buy or lease another one in the next few years. Every dollar you spend becomes a discount on that vehicle.
Skip it if a GM purchase is not on the horizon. A flat cash back business card like the Spark 2% Cash pays money you can use anywhere.
