Our review
The IHG One Rewards Premier Select is Chase's new top-tier IHG card, and it is built for people who stay with IHG often. It earns up to 28x total points at IHG hotels, 6x on dining and all other travel including rideshare, and 3x on everything else, with automatic Platinum Elite status and an anniversary free night worth up to 60,000 points.
The $350 fee is steep for a hotel card, but the credits do a lot of the work: up to $300 a year in IHG food and beverage rewards, a $200 airline credit, and a Global Entry or TSA PreCheck credit. Use the free night and the food credits and the card pays for itself.
Think twice if: you stay at IHG only a few nights a year, where the cheaper IHG Premier delivers most of the value for less.
Our 7.2 out of 10 rating
Each score weighs the rewards rate, value after the annual fee, welcome offer, points flexibility, and perks, with every point valued at a flat 1 cent. This is our editorial assessment to help you compare cards, not a guarantee of approval or of the value you will get.

Rewards: how it earns
You earn 12x points from the card at IHG hotels (up to 28x total with member and status bonuses), 6x on dining and all other travel including rideshare, and 3x on everything else. I value IHG points at a flat cent like every currency on the site, though most IHG redemptions return less. The 6x on dining and travel is generous for a hotel card, and 3x on all other spending keeps points flowing.
| Category | Rate | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Dining and restaurants | 6x | Bonus category |
| Travel | 6x | Bonus category |
| Transit and rideshare | 6x | Bonus category |
| Groceries | 3x | Base rate |
| Gas | 3x | Base rate |
| Streaming | 3x | Base rate |
| Everything else | 3x | Everything else |
The fine print on rates: IHG points are valued at a flat 1 cent here like every currency on the site, though IHG redemptions typically return less. The free night and the $300 in IHG food and beverage credits are what offset the $350 fee.
Every point and mile above is valued at a flat 1 cent, the same honest standard we use for every card. Run your own spending through the calculator to see what this card would actually return for you.
Best ways to earn & redeem
Put your dining, travel, and transit and rideshare spending on this card to earn at its highest rates, and let a different card handle the categories it does not bonus. Its dining rate is among the stronger ones you will find in that category.
When you cash in, redeem the miles or points inside the single loyalty program this card is tied to. We value every point at a flat 1 cent, so treat any transfer upside as a bonus rather than the baseline — see what your points are really worth.
Pros and cons
- 200,000-point launch offer
- 6x on dining and all other travel
- Up to $300 in IHG food and beverage credits and a $200 airline credit
- Anniversary free night worth up to 60,000 points
- $350 annual fee
- Points locked to IHG
- Credits require regular IHG stays to use
The welcome bonus
The launch offer is 200,000 IHG points after $5,000 in purchases in the first 3 months. That is a huge haul of IHG points and easily the best reason to apply in year one.
Is it worth the annual fee?
The $350 annual fee is offset by up to $300 in IHG food and beverage rewards ($75 a quarter), a $200 airline credit when you spend $250 on flights, and an anniversary free night worth up to 60,000 points. If you stay at IHG often enough to use the food credits and the free night, the fee more than pays for itself.
First-year value vs ongoing value
| Welcome bonus | 200,000 IHG One Rewards points |
| To earn it | $5,000 in the first 3 months |
| Est. first-year value* | $43,310 |
| Est. ongoing value / yr* | $41,310 |
The welcome bonus makes year one the high point: roughly $43,310 in value once you count the bonus, this card’s rewards, and its credits, minus the $350 fee. After that, the honest figure is about $41,310 a year, so judge whether it earns its keep on the ongoing number, not the first-year headline.
*First-year value counts the welcome bonus, estimated rewards, and annual credits, minus the annual fee; ongoing value is a typical year after. Every point at a flat 1 cent, on average spending.
Benefits and protections
Beyond the rewards, the perks and protections worth knowing about include:

Who should get it, and who should skip it
Get the Premier Select if IHG is your main hotel chain and you stay often. The credits, the free night, and Platinum status make the $350 fee easy to justify.
If you stay at IHG only now and then, the IHG One Rewards Premier gives you a free night and status for much less.
